Bill M. Hicks (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Bill M. Hicks, son of Hugh D. and Orpha Mae Noyes Hicks, was born November 14, 1935, in Versailles, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, October 20, 2019, in Mercy Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years, eleven months, and six days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Austin Hicks; three brothers, Bob, Clyde “Bugs”, and Herb Hicks; and a sister, Ann Ruth Vincent.
Bill is survived by three sons, William Hicks, and his wife, Mary, of Lebanon, Missouri, Jay Hicks, and his wife, Jennifer, of Phoenix, Arizona, John Hicks, and his wife, Karen, of Springfield, Missouri, and Bill Avila, a foreign exchange son from 1981 – 1982; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rachel, Shelby, Alex, John Curtis “J.C.”, and Phoebe; eight great-grandchildren, Edy, Jaxon, Mason, Bryson, Raelynn, Charlotte, Savannah, and Lyddia; a brother, Jim Hicks, and his wife, Cynthia, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was born in Versailles, Missouri and then moved with his family to Lebanon when he was five years old. He attended Lebanon R-III Schools and graduated from Lebanon High School. He then made his home in the Lebanon area and helped raise his sons. Bill was a true Renaissance man, and worked at several different occupations, including truck driving, meat cutting, and woodworking through the years.
He was very involved in the Boy Scout Troop # 59, and was active in the Lebanon Elks Lodge for twenty-seven years. He was a Past President of the Hughes Senior Center board and was instrumental in getting an ice cream machine for the center. He enjoyed being a member of the Hardee’s Breakfast Liars Club. He loved to fish, but never went. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.
Memorial contributions to the Hughes Senior Citizen Center may be made through the funeral home.
