He departed this life Thursday, January 18, 2007, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-one years, ten months, and twenty-three days. On February 18, 1955, he was united in marriage to Retha J. Cook, and to this union one daughter was born. His parents, and a brother-in-law, Eugene Fraker, preceded him in death. Billy is survived by his loving wife of almost fifty-two years, Retha, of the home; a daughter, Sandra Barnhart, and her husband, Eric, of Spokane, Missouri; three grandchildren, Nick Barnhart, Ben O’Brien, and Ashley Barnhart; a brother, Bob Scott, and his wife, Bonnie, of Niangua, Missouri; a sister, Alberta Fraker, of Marshfield, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was raised in the Grovespring and Niangua communities, and graduated from Niangua High School. Soon after he and Retha were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their daughter. Billy began a career as an insurance agent early in his adult years, and owned an agency for most of his life. He served as a broker for several companies including Standard Life, TransAmerica Life, and United American Insurance. Billy attended Prospect Church during his younger years, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lebanon. In addition to his insurance work, he raised cattle on his farm, and enjoyed fishing on the Lake of the Ozarks. He loved playing golf, and liked to ride horses in his spare time. He also greatly enjoyed watching movies. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having fun with his grandchildren. Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he made for his family and friends.
