Billy Arthur Roush's Obituary
Billy Arthur Roush, 76, Independence, Missouri, passed away Friday, March 2, 2007 at Glenwood Healthcare Center, Seymour, Missouri. He was born February 14, 1931 to Arthur Sylvester and Irene Pearl Smiley Roush in Nevada, Missouri. Billy was a 1949 graduate of Willard High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Before he left for active duty, he and Bessie Jean Evans were married on August 19, 1950. He helped with the Inchon, Korea evacuation, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal. After living mostly in Springfield, the family moved to Independence in 1969. Billy retired from Campbell 66 Express after driving for 26 years. Billy was baptized at a young age in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was very involved with his church ministry where he served as deacon, priest, and elder. He enjoyed traveling on Missionary work. Billy was currently a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Atherton Restoration Branch where he was a hard worker when the church remodeled the building. Billy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jimmy Ray Roush. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean; two daughters, Elaine Crump, and her husband, Bob, of Seymour, and Nancy Skelton, of Independence; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Hicks, of Joplin; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert Eugene “Chief” and Sharol Roush, of Galt, California; and many other family members. Billy was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri. Memorials to the Church of Jesus Christ, Atherton Restoration Branch Youth Group or Missionary fund may be made through the funeral home.
