He was born in Georgetown, but was raised in Danville, Illinois, where he graduated from high school. He then entered the United States Army Air Corps in June of 1947, and was stationed overseas and in Georgia, where he met and married Alice. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1950, and remained in the reserves. He and Alice returned to the Danville area for the next seven years, and began raising their family. Billy worked at various jobs during that time. In June of 1957, Billy re-entered the military and served his country faithfully for twenty-six years, in the United States Air Force until retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1976. He took his military career very seriously and always tried to do his best. He had been stationed in Greenland, Vietnam, Taiwan, and South Korea, among other places during his military days. Upon retiring from the Air Force, Billy and Alice moved to the Eldridge, Missouri community. Billy worked as a welder for the Detroit Tool Company for several years, and worked as an independent welder after that. In 2008, Billy and Darlene moved into Lebanon, and made their home. He had also worked in construction and in waste water management throughout his life.
Billy had made his profession of faith in Christ and was baptized early in his life, and had attended Southern Heights Christian Church in Lebanon.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge. He liked watching auto racing, photography, playing cards and dancing. He particularly enjoyed going to the Hughes Senior Center for their dances. He also liked working in his shop and eating out.
Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated military man, and a good Christian friend.
