Billy Gene Harrell (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Billy Gene Harrell, son of Leroy and Violet English Harrell, was born January 9, 1949, near Plad, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, January 13, 2020, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-one years, and four days.
On September 27, 1975, he was united in marriage to Verla Arlene McKenzie, and to this union one son was born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Devon, Kenneth, Herbert, and Loren Harrell; and four sisters, Ruby Finnegan, Daisy Baker, Thelma Hays, and Druscilla Cones.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Verla, of the home; a son, Jesse Harrell, and his wife, Melissa, of Lebanon, Missouri; a granddaughter, Hollie Harrell; a brother, Robert Harrell, and his wife, Beverly, of Lebanon, Missouri; six sisters, Wanda Sherrer, Patricia Hough, and her husband, Bob, Marilyn Moore, all of Lebanon, Missouri, Brenda Edson, and her husband, Sidney, of Blue Springs, Missouri, Kathy Turney, and her husband, Colbert, of Richmond, Missouri, and Lorena White, of Lexington, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Laclede County area and then moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Once he and Verla were married, they lived in Kansas City and began raising Jesse. In 1996, the family moved to St. Louis where they lived until moving near Lebanon, in 2008. They purchased a farm near Orla and enjoyed life on the river. Through the years, Billy worked as a machinist and owned and operated a number of businesses.
He had a love for animals and enjoyed collecting arrowheads. He possessed a good sense of humor and always liked to tease his family and friends. He loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter.
Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will hold tight to the memories he made for them during his lifetime.
