Bobby D. Burks (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mr. Bobby “Bob” Dean Burks, age, 70 of Springfield, Missouri, formerly of Bolivar, passed away early Friday morning, July 1, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
He was born July 9, 1940 in Bolivar, Missouri the son of Glen Pitman Burks and Mary M. LaRose.
Bob graduated from Bolivar High School in 1958. He served as starting quarterback his sophomore year and was a starting basketball player his sophomore year going to State his senior year.
He married Janet Teters in 1962, and to this union, three sons were born, David, Robert and Stephen.
Bob was saved at Calvary Baptist Church in Bolivar, later attending First Baptist Church in Bolivar and was currently attending Marionville Assembly of God Church. He also served in the Army National Guard. He attended both Southwest Baptist University and Southwest Missouri State University.
Bob ran the Burks Shoe Store on the North side of the Bolivar Square and had a beef cattle farm just north of town. After selling the shoe store, he worked as traffic manager for Universal Flowers. Upon moving to Springfield in 1985, he started a trucking company called American Eagle Cartage, which he ran with his son David.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Mary Burks.
Bob became engaged to his true love and lifetime companion, Carolyn Naylor.
He is survived by Carolyn, his three sons, David Burks of Springfield, Missouri, Robert Burks and his wife Melissa of Bolivar, Missouri, Stephen Burks and his wife Tara of Battlefield, Missouri and nine grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00pm on Tuesday evening at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri with Pastor Mark Lewis officiating. Musical selections will be “I Believe”, “I Bowed On My Knees” and “Amazing Grace”. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri with Military Honors provided by the AMVETS Post #114 of Flemington, Missouri. Pallbearers will be David Burks, Robert Burks, Stephen Burks, Morris Westfall, Kenny Legan and David Naylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Stever, J.C. Meadors and Bill Mincks.
