Bobby Joe Sherrer (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Robert Joseph Sherrer, better known as “Bobby Joe”, son of Floyd F. and Molly Jane McDaniel Sherrer, was born July 26, 1931, near Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, December 8, 2016, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years, four months, and twelve days.
On December 25, 1955, he was united in marriage to Wanda Lois Harrell, and to this union four sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Clyde, Johnny, and an infant.
Bobby Joe is survived by his loving wife of almost sixty-one years, Wanda, of the home; four sons, Donnie Sherrer, and his wife, Mary, of Republic, Missouri, Ronnie Sherrer, Dwight Sherrer, and his wife, Terri, and Dwayne Sherrer, and his wife, Lisa, all of Lebanon, Missouri; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Lebanon area, and graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1949. He joined the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Army from April 4, 1952 until April 15, 1954, during the Korean War. After he and Wanda were married, they made their home in Kansas City, Missouri for twelve years while Bobby Joe managed the McCall’s Service Station. The family then returned to Lebanon, and made their home on the Sherrer family farm, where Bobby Joe was born. Through the years, Bobby Joe owned a furniture store and an auction company and also operated the cattle farm.
Bobby Joe was a Third Degree Mason with the Laclede County Lodge # 83 A.F. and A.M. of Lebanon, and was a Shriner with the Laclede County Shrine Club. He had also earned membership in the Order of the Scottish Rite. He was a Past Post Commander of the Lebanon American Legion Post # 43.
He liked sports of all kinds, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals and the Chiefs. He also enjoyed following his grandchildren in their sporting events. He loved tracing his family genealogy and spending time visiting with his family and friends. He was very proud of his military service and was very patriotic person.
Bobby Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his eighty-five years.
