Bobby J. Stone (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Bobby Justus Stone, son of Johnny Lee and Ida Rea Atkinson Stone, was born October 31, 1931, near Phillipsburg, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, eight months, and twenty-three days.
On October 7, 1967, he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Dirth, and they shared the last forty-four years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stevie Stone; a brother, Jackie; and a sister, Lynda.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; a daughter, Anette Lynn Brooner, and her husband, Robert, of Lebanon, Missouri; three sons, John Scott Stone, Dennis Daniel Stone, and Peter Brett Stone, and his wife, Maria, all of Lebanon, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Conway, Missouri area, and then moved with his family to Iowa, where he graduated from high school, in Burlington, Iowa. He then served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was stationed in Korea for part of that time. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, Bobby worked with his dad in the building trade for several years. He worked as a keyboard specialist and eventually owned and operated a chain of music stores in Texas, specializing in Lowry Organs and Steinway Pianos. Later, he moved to Costa Rica where he worked in real estate and land development for over twenty years. He and Barbara retired to the Lebanon, Missouri area in 1995.
He was a licensed pilot, loved to fly, and owned a small charter service for a few years in Texas. In his spare time he enjoyed doing woodworking projects, beekeeping, and also managed some rental properties for a time. He possessed an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. He was a great salesman, was very gifted, and was kind of a “Jack of all trades”. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bobby was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and all that he accomplished and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them throughout the years.
A Memorial has been established, and contributions may be made through the Funeral Home.
