Bonnie Blackburn's Obituary
Bonnie Lou Blackburn, daughter of Clinton Thomas and Edith Angeline Skinner Devore, was born November 24, 1933, near Sleeper, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday February 25, 2009, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-five years, three months, and one day. On February 28, 1953, she was united in marriage to Dewey Floyd Blackburn, and to this union three daughters and three sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Kenny and Edith; and four brothers, Everett, Bill, James, and George Devore. Bonnie is survived by three daughters, Brenda Sue Ashford, and her husband, Randy, of Mound City, Missouri, Kay Devine, and her husband, Bill, and Jo Donna Young, and Wayne, all of Lebanon, Missouri; three sons, John Blackburn, and his wife, Stephanie, Richard Blackburn, and his wife, Paula, and Randy Blackburn, all of Lebanon, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Devore, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Earl Devore, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; six sisters, Burley Leeper, of Cantrel, Iowa, Ruby Geiger and Velma Knapp, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dollie Banks, Faye Pollreisz, and Joyce Blackburn, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was raised in the Lebanon, Missouri area and attended Greenstreet School. After she and Floyd were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her family, Bonnie also worked as a certified medical assistant at Bland Senior Citizen Home in Lebanon for a number of years. Bonnie had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Grace Calvary Church in Lebanon. She enjoyed going to the Bell Restaurant three times a day for coffee and to visit with her friends. One of her greatest joys was meeting President Elect Barack Obama upon his campaign stop at the Bell Restaurant in Lebanon a few months ago. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday March 2, 2009 at Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday afternoon 4-5:30 pm under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Return to top
