Brenda Sue Short (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Brenda Sue Short, daughter of Sam Johnson and Betty Canoy was born December 22, 1959, in Cook County, Illinois. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, in her home, in Mansfield, Missouri, at the age of fifty-nine years, nine months, and two days, after a long illness due to COPD, chem-o-therapy kidney damage, and 4 heart attacks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Beverly Johnson, a brother Bobby Johnson, and a half- sister Shelia Brewer.
Brenda is survived by her husband Charles (Chuck) of Mansfield, Missouri; daughter, Hannah Edwards, and husband, Donald, of Hollister, Missouri; a twin sister, Linda Johnson of Arlington Heights, Illinois; two half-sisters, Jacqueline McVicker of Buchanan Tennessee, and Toy Brewer of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Chase and Drennan of Hollister, Missouri; six step-grandchildren, Dawson, Parker, and Brynn, of Cabot, Arkansas, Rayne, and Kaysha of Mansfield, and Avery of Seymour; as well as a host of other in-laws, relatives and friends.
She lived most of her life in the Springfield area, and graduated from Nixa High School in the Class of 1979. She attended Mansfield school from second through eighth grade, at this time is when she met Chuck. After her eighth grade year her brother, Bobby, twin sister, Linda, and herself, were given up for adoption separating Brenda and Chuck. They were reacquainted at the end of 2004 and were married on April 27, 2006.
Brenda worked for the Springfield Public Schools for 12 years, as a cook. She also worked at Degraferies and Golden Corral in Springfield. Throughout the years, Brenda was a devoted homemaker, and she would give you the coat off her back to help anyone. She knew no strangers. She had a very giving personality and always had a smile that would light up the room.
Brenda accepted Christ at a very young age and was a member of the Church of Christ.
In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful flowers, selling Avon, playing video games and cooking. She had a love for animals and especially, adored her Chihuahuas. Brenda was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
