Brooksie Dalton's Obituary
Brooksie Dalton, daughter of James K. Polk and Lulu Agnes (Dean) McHaffie was born July 21, 1922 near Bruner, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri at the age of eighty-seven years, four months and four days.
On June 26, 1947 she was united in marriage to Samuel Kenneth Dalton and to this union one son and four daughters were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam, on November 18, 1993; one grandson, Randall Lee; one brother, Dave McHaffie; and five sisters, Emma Davis, Bertha Todd, Julie Cornelison, Daisy Prewitt, and Ruby Cook.
Brooksie is survived by her son, Tom and his wife, Barbara, of Seymour, Missouri; four daughters, Faye Nix and her husband, Donnie, of Springfield, Missouri, Brooksie May Dalton and Mary Kaye Ousley, both of Mansfield, Missouri, and Joyce Walker, of Springfield, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Trish Emerick, Cindy Wilson, Steven Nix, Philip Nix, Samantha Herrera, Larry Ousley, II, Kaysha Ousley, Jason Walker, and Jarrod Walker; nine great-grandchildren, Trenton, Tom-Tom, Shaely, Colton, Naomi, Alyshia, Kalie, Toni, and Jade; a sister, Pearl McHaffie, of Sparta, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She grew up in the Bruner community and after her marriage to Sam they lived in California, Idaho, and Springfield before moving to the Mansfield and Seymour area to make their home. Besides being a homemaker to her family, she had also worked at Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory in Mansfield.
Brooksie had made her profession of faith in God and was baptized on June 24, 1962 at the Homeland Baptist Church in Springfield and had attended the Mansfield First Baptist Church for several years.
She was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In her spare time she spent time gardening and growing beautiful flowers, cooking for her family, and going to the Mansfield Lady Lions Basketball games. Brooksie loved her family very much and especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the precious memories she created for those who loved her.
Services for Mrs. Brooksie Dalton will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2009 in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour, Missouri. Burial will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.
