Burma Grace Harmon (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Burma Grace Smith entered this world on March 19, 1934, and was welcomed to her Heavenly home on July 13, 2021. Burma passed peacefully in her own home surrounded by the people she loved the most.
Burma was the beloved daughter of Floyd Clinton Smith and Grace Margaret Rambo. Born in Dallas County, Missouri, Burma and her older brother, Joe, were reared in a home filled with singing, fiddles, guitar-picking and square dancing.
Burma attended Tunas High School where she was active in sports and other activities until she graduated in 1951. School is where she met her one and only, Rex Maddux Harmon. Those who have known the couple will remember them as fostering the love of a century. Burma moved to Kansas City where she worked for Farmers Insurance. Rex, soon, came a calling with a ring he had steadfastly saved up for. They were married on May 31, 1952, and having just recently celebrated their sixty-ninth wedding anniversary, theirs was a forever story. They went on to welcome and raise three children who survive their beautiful mother: Greg, Judy and Sherri.
Burma was many things to many people. Faithful wife and loyal partner, loving, devoted mother, kind and feisty Mee-maw, sweet and cheeky Mimi. She had beautiful eyes and a smile that rarely left her face. She enjoyed quilting, ceramics and gardening. She also was incredibly involved with her church, dedicating years of her time to teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible school, as well as joining the church choir to lend her many musical gifts to worship. Burma loved her God, her family and her community. She was incredibly competitive and was infamously known to hustle a tough round of Wahoo out of anyone willing to take her on.
Burma was preceded in death by her parents and brother Joe. She is survived by her loyal husband Rex, her son Gregory Rex Harmon and his wife Sarah, daughter Judy Lynn Dampier and her husband Bobby Jay Dampier, and daughter Sherri Renee’ Parrack and her husband Bryan Jay Parrack. Six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren will deeply be missing their sweet Meemaw in the days and years to come. All are comforted with the beautiful and bountiful memories Burma gave us.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2021 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Morris officiating. Escorts will be Ryan Doyle, Chris Dampier, Cody West, Harley Kays, Coleman Dampier, and Mason West. Interment will be in the Hopewell Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Phoenix Hospice.
