Calvin (Gus) Leslie Hummel, II (Seymour)'s Obituary
Calvin Leslie “Gus” Hummel, II, the son of Calvin Leslie and Marie (Fancher) Hummel was born December 14, 1944, in Springfield, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, July 9, 2010, in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-five years, six months and twenty-five days.
On June 3, 1988, he was united in marriage to Janice Lynn Johnson and they have shared twenty-two wonderful years together.
Gus was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Calvin Leslie Hummel, III.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice, of the home; his children, Lisa Hardee and her fiancé, Travis Brewer, of Webb City, Missouri, Kevin Hummel and his wife, Laura, of Montgomery City, Missouri, and an adopted son, Bobby Hummel and his wife, Vickie, of Holts Summit, Missouri; his step-children, Frank Merriman, Nancy Biondo and her husband, Bradley, all of Warrenton, Missouri, Leana Gruenefeld of Mexico, Missouri, Lora Florez and her husband, Samuel, of the Country of Mexico, Dale Galbraith and his wife, Tammy, Linda Harmon and her husband, Merle, and Brenda Jones and her husband, David, all of Seymour, Missouri; thirty-nine grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren; a number of step-brothers and step-sisters; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Gus grew up in Urbana, Missouri, and graduated from Skyline High School. He had lived in Marshfield for several years before he and Janice made their home in Seymour. He was self-employed for most of his working life doing building development.
He had accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of the New Beginnings Baptist Church near Seymour. He was very devoted to the church and was looking forward to the building of a new and larger church.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing, going to Silver Dollar City, and babysitting with his grandchildren. He loved being Seymour’s Santa Claus for several years and had a special knack for entertaining the children.
Gus was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the precious memories he created for all those who knew and loved him.
