Candy Mayfield (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Candanice Fern “Candy” Mayfield, 60 years of age, of Holdrege, entered into eternity with Jesus on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Candy was born November 21, 1955 in Vandalia, Illinois, the eldest of two children born to Wendell and Marylyn (Reese) Davenport. She received her education from Pleasant Hope Public School in Pleasant Hope, Missouri, where she graduated with the class of 1973. She then pursued higher education at Southwest Baptist University at Bolivar, Missouri, where she received her Registered Nursing degree.
Candy was saved at the age of 19 at the Schofield Church and later joined the Walnut Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Van Town, Missouri.
At the age of 14, as a freshman in high school at Pleasant Hope she met the love of her life, Ronnie K. Mayfield. On December 11, 1972 they were united in marriage at Halfway, Missouri and to this union three children were born: Rae Anna, Ronnie, Jr., and Clint. The family made their home in Pleasant Hope and Half Way, Missouri, where she worked as a nurse for 25 years. The family then moved to Holdrege, where she continued her nursing career for a brief time. She always cherished the friendship bonds formed during her nursing career. Besides her nursing, Candy loved being a homemaker. She will be remembered as a fun-loving person, a loving wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Candy wanted to thank everyone for all that they did during this difficult time. The thoughtfulness truly uplifted Candy and Ronnie on a daily basis and the love shown by others was comforting. One of her favorite sayings during this time was “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It is about learning to dance in the rain.”
Candy was preceded in death by her mother, Marylyn Johnston; step-father, Bill Johnston; brother, Chris Davenport and her father-in-law, Doyle Wayne Mayfield.
