Carl "Duke" Burns (Camdenton)'s Obituary
Carl Wayne “Duke” Burns, son of Tom and Ivah Lucille (McGuire) Burns, was born October 22, 1952 in Decaturville, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at the age of seventy-two years, five months and eleven days.
On December 28, 1974, Duke was united in marriage to Bertha Jane Crall, and to this union one daughter was born.
Duke was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wanda June Luttrell and Penny Stidham; one brother, Wade Burns; and two brothers-in-law, Shawnee Ripley and Sterling Luttrell.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha, of the home; his daughter, Mandy Burns of the home; two sisters, Jackie Sluss and husband James of Linn Creek, Missouri and Dorthaia Ripley of Eldridge, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Sandy Burns of Abilene, Kansas; and a brother-in-law Stanley Stidham of Montreal, Missouri; an adopted granddaughter, Sophia Hernandez; numerous nieces, nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Duke grew up in the Decaturville area and was a graduate of Camdenton High School in the Class of 1970. He attended Central Missouri State University and later was a graduate of Missy Lee’s College of Beauty in Lebanon, Missouri.
Duke was saved at an early age and was a charter member at Trinity Full Gospel Church in Eldridge, Missouri where he enjoyed worshipping with his family and friends. Duke loved his church family dearly.
Duke spent thirty-four years as a hairdresser. He worked at Donovan’s Salon, The Clipper Salon and Headturners Salon. He also spent twenty-four years as the hairdresser for Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home.
After he retired as a hairdresser, Duke spent fifteen years at Wal-Mart and later worked at Ozarkland on the square.
In his spare time, Duke enjoyed gardening and was known for growing the most beautiful elephant ears. He was also an avid reader and had read the bible cover to cover multiple times. Duke also liked to read western novels. He and Bertha enjoyed sitting on the porch, watching the birds and talking with his neighbors. He taught himself how to play the piano and loved to sing gospel music with his family.
Duke was a loving husband, daddy, brother and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and take great comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain and is with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Camdenton, Missouri. Visitation will be held the prior evening, Monday, April 7, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
