There are no words to say just how much Carl and Velda have meant to us. If you were to look up the word "encourager" in the dictionary, you would find their pictures beside it. And they didn't just offer words, they gave of their time and resources, too. At a very low, difficult time in our lives, they believed in us and God used them to give us hope and help in working toward a solution. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of loss.
I was blessed to have Carl come into my life as his care giver over this past year. I grew to live him like a father. Not a day goes by he's not in my mind and heart. Because of the many hours spent with him, he impacted my life and turned me into a better person. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
This morning, I spent time thinking about uncle Revere and how he has affected my life. As a kid he always encouraged my creative and analytical tendencies. I always admired his successful professional life. I’ve always wanted to be an architect when I grow up and recall being excited when he reviewed some of my designs when I was in my teens and told me how good they were.
He and Velda is one of the marriages that Kristen and I modeled our relationship after. We tell the story about them pulling us aside when we got married to discuss how to respect each other and live on a budget etc. They even sent us a set of video tapes that discussed relationships.
