Carl Linus Moffitt (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Carl Linus Moffitt, 91, of Bolivar passed quietly from this life early Wednesday morning, April 18th, 2012 at Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility in Stockton, Missouri.
He was born May 23, 1920 in Violet, Missouri, the son of Francis Asberry Moffitt and Nannie Belle Brooks Moffitt. He was the youngest of six children. Carl grew up in the Violet community near Bolivar. He was saved as a young man and joined the Spring Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
Carl married Ozella Lockhart on January 15, 1941. They were married 57 years. Carl and Ozella had one son, Carl Dennis Moffitt, who was killed in a car accident in 1990. They lived in California for over 50 years before returning to live in Missouri and Oklahoma following the death of their son.
He entered the Army in June 1945 and served in World War II in Italy as a lineman with the 3196th Signal Corp. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to California to work as a maintenance supervisor for Coast Grain until his retirement in 1985.
Carl and Dennis loved to shoot trap and skeet. Carl served as the president of the Norwalk Gun Club. One of his favorite stories was having the opportunity to shoot with Roy Rogers.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Ozella; his parents, Az and Nan; his son, Dennis; three brothers, Orvil, Ken, and Earl; and two sisters, Margaret Nelson and Leila Pritchard.
He is survived by his nieces Jean Fantz; Berna Deen Smith; Janice Entrop and husband, Harold; Joyce Brown; and Karen Gorden and husband, Ben; and his nephew, Bruce Moffitt; brother-in-laws, Joe Lockhart; Don Courtney; Albert Courtney and sister-in-laws Joan Ross and Margie Folsom. He is also survived by many great and great great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Carl had a generous and loving nature. He enjoyed gardening and visiting with family and friends.
