Carl Schaummann (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Carl Dewald Schaummann, Jr., son of Carl Dewald Schaummann, Sr. and Katherine Stark Schaummann, was born January 31, 1927 in Hudson, New York. He departed this life Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, four months, and five days.
On June 26, 1952, he was united in marriage to Ruby Lee Mutter, and to this union two daughters and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mary Delaney and Emma Ohl.
Carl is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; two daughters, Cathy Qualls, and her husband, Dr. Randy, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Victoria Schaummann, of Springfield, Missouri; a son, Carl David Schaummann, and his wife, Teri, of Lake Ozark, Missouri; a number of grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, Boyd Schaummann, of Philmont, New York; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in New York State and then joined the military as a young man. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from April 3, 1945, until June 20, 1952, and was stationed in the United States and in the Philippines during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he and Ruby made their home in New York for fifteen years and began raising their children. In 1965, he and the family moved to Iberia, Missouri and Carl began working as a boiler operator at Fort Leonard Wood. In 1996, the family moved to Lebanon, and Carl and Ruby enjoyed their retirement years.
Carl made his profession of faith in Christ early in his life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Iberia for several years. After moving to Lebanon, he transferred his membership to the First Baptist Church of Lebanon.
He was an active member of the V.F.W. Post # 4107 in Lebanon. He was steadfast in his convictions and always loved finding a bargain. He felt strongly that you look a man in the eye and shake his hand to make a good impression. He loved his family dearly and was sentimental about celebrating holidays and birthdays.
Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
A memorial has been established to the V.F.W. Post #4107.
