Carl Summers, Sr. (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mr. Carl Wilbert Summers, Sr., age 84, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Sunday morning, August 14, 2011 at his home in Bolivar, Missouri after a very courageous fight with cancer.
He was born July 16, 1927 in Humansville, Missouri, the son of Elijah Floyd Summers and Lula Belle (Rumans) Summers.
Carl graduated from Humansville High School, the class of 1945. He then served in the United States Army during World War II from June of 1946 to August of 1947.
Carl worked in the home construction business and was a farmer for many years. He lived in Alaska and worked on the Alaskan Pipe Line during it’s construction phase.
On May 3, 1976 Carl married Elizabeth Ann (Cutter) Lilly in Miami, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son; John F. Summers, a son; Alan Schaffer and two sisters; Dorles Carter and Bernice Baumgardner.
Carl is survived by his wife of 35 years; Elizabeth A. Summers of the home, three sons; Carl W. Summers, Jr. and his wife Jo Ann of Bolivar, Missouri, Michael J. Summers of Springfield, Missouri, Timothy A. Lilly and his wife Lucy of Fontana, California, eight daughters; Judy A. Rothermel and her husband Dan of Springfield, Missouri, Peggy L. Gerken and her husband Al of Springfield, Missouri, Carolyn B. Hamilton and her husband Greg of Brighton, Missouri, Kathleen M. Summers and her husband James Wolfsom of Springfield, Missouri, Brenda L. Coday and her husband David of Battlefield, Missouri, Terry J. Erlich and her husband Richard of Collins, Missouri, Tammy J. Mizer and her husband Kenneth of Lebanon, Missouri, Tina E. Griffin and her husband Glenn of Collins, Missouri, 29 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm Tuesday evening, August 16, 2011 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Butler Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Mizer and Reverend Timothy Jennings officiating. Musical selections will be “In The Garden”, “Beautiful Isle Of Somewhere”, “White Robe and Crown” and “What A Day That Will Be” being sung and played by Reverend Kenneth Mizer and Reverend Timothy Jennings. Burial will follow at Plum Grove Cemetery north of Dunnegan, Missouri with Military Honors provided by AMVETS Post #114 of Flemington, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Steven Rothermel, Danny Rothermel, Dan Rothermel, William Brannock, Johnathan Mizer, Hunter Turner, David Coday and Greg Hamilton.
