Carl G. Wilson (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Carl Glen Wilson, son of Floyd and Lola Wills Wilson, was born July 2, 1942, in Buckner, Missouri. He departed this life peacefully on Friday, January 1, 2021, in Western Medical Center, in Warrensburg, Missouri, at the age of seventy-eight years, five months, and thirty days.
On August 4, 1963, he was united in marriage to Barbara S. Wilkerson, by Barbara’s brother, Rev. James Wilkerson, in the Harmony Baptist Church. This union was blessed with two children, Dale and Stacey.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Lola Wilkerson.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Barbara, of the home; a son, Dale Wilson, and his wife, Kamrian, of Lebanon, Missouri; a daughter, Stacey Rumsey, and her husband, Daniel, of Higginsville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Aubrey Wilson, Alexa Wilson, Taylor Rumsey, Rachel Rumsey, and Mason Rumsey; two brothers, Deryl Wilson, and his wife, Becky, of Phillipsburg, Missouri, and Wayne Wilson, and his wife, Linda, of Springfield, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He attended Phillipsburg Elementary School and graduated from Buffalo High School in the Class of 1961. He was a member of the Buffalo Bison Basketball team and enjoyed playing basketball very much. After Carl and Barbara were married, they made their home in the Higginsville, Missouri area and lovingly raised their children. Carl was a fifty-five year member of IBEW Local 53 and worked for forty-three years as a lineman operator, which included restoring power in other parts of the country on countless storm breaks. He retired from lineman work in 2004.
As a child, Carl earned several years of perfect attendance in Sunday school. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of seventeen. Carl was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Higginsville, where he enjoyed being an usher for many years.
He enjoyed wood working, gardening, sports and westerns. He coached Little League and was a 4-H volunteer. He also loved watching and supporting his grandchildren in all their activities, including cheerleading, softball, baseball, volleyball, football, and basketball, which was the sport he loved. He was always his family’s number one fan, with a smile on his face, which will be missed by everyone who knew him.
In his retirement years, Carl enjoyed working on the family farm. He especially enjoyed building fence, burning brush and clearing fence rows.
Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He loved everyone and never met a stranger. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will hold tight to the wonderful memories he made for them during his seventy-eight years.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Higginsville, Missouri.
Memorials to Faith Baptist Church, Harmony Cemetery, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital have been established and contributions may be made through the funeral home.
