Carlene Burris' Obituary
Carlene Burris, daughter of Jim and Ethel May (Prister) Benton, was born May 10, 1937, near Hartville, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, August 20, 2009 in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-two years, three months, and eight days.
On October 6, 1956 she was united in marriage to Ansel R. Burris and to this union one son, Randy, was born, they later adopted Rick as their son.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Randy Burris; and two brothers, Irvin and Farris Benton.
Carlene is survived by a son, Rick Burris and his father, Ansel Burris, both of Falcon, Missouri; four brothers, Bernell Benton, of Hillsboro, Oregon, Dallas Benton, of Gates, Oregon, M.J. Benton, of French Glenn, Oregon, and Edsel Benton, of the state of Florida; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in Wright County, and graduated from Hartville High School in the class of 1956. After graduation she moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she worked for National Bellas-Hess catalog for twelve years. She then returned to Wright County to make her home and was a devoted homemaker and spent many years babysitting. After spending thirty-three years in Wright County she moved to Nixa, where she worked many years as a seamstress at Famous Barr in Springfield.
Carlene had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Elk Creek Baptist Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, and caring for her yard and flowers. Carlene was a kind and caring person with a big heart. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends.
Funeral Services Will be held at 2 pm Monday, August 24, 2009 in Holman-Howe Chapel, Hartville, Missouri. Burial will follow in Durbin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 pm Sunday in the Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Durbin Cemetery in care of the funeral home at PO Box 236 Hartville, Missouri 65667. Arrangements are under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville.
