Carolyn "Susie" Harris (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Carolyn Sue “Susie” Harris, daughter of Lynn Morrison and Mabel (Phillips) Harris, was born June 10, 1947, in Waynesville, Missouri. She left this earth on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, to rejoice with heaven’s angels, following a series of serious health setbacks, at the age of seventy-two years, two months, and eleven days.
She was preceded in death by her father; her maternal grandparents, Orville and Nettie (Clark) Phillips; her paternal grandparents, Allen and Elsie (McDaniel) Harris; a brother-in-law, Earnest Leon Schuenemeyer; and a nephew, Luke Zander Weddle.
Susie is survived by her mother, Mabel Harris, of Lebanon, Missouri; three sisters, Lyndele Sturgiss, of Lebanon, Missouri, Ramona Schuenemeyer, of Lake Ozark, Missouri; and Charlotte Lister, and her husband, Terrill, of Overland Park, Kansas; a brother, Lynn Harris, and his wife, Jeanine, of Lebanon, Missouri; one nephew, Lee Schuenemeyer, and his wife, Carrie, of Kansas City, Missouri; three nieces, Sarah Venable, of Overland Park, Kansas, Bailey Lowe, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Brooke Bishop, of Lebanon, Missouri; eight great-nieces and great-nephews, Breck Schunemeyer, Eli Schuenemeyer; Alexis, Taylor, and Jacob Venable; Piper Toland; Preslie and Harper Bishop. Susie is also survived by her “best friend”, Jack Harris, Lynn and Jeanine’s beautiful, loving, white Labrador always who always brought a smile to Carolyn’s face.
Susie was raised in Richland, Missouri, and graduated from Richland High School. She worked as a sales clerk in the Post Exchange at Fort Leonard Wood for several years. Later, she was employed by Christian Health Care North in Lebanon.
Susie was saved and baptized at an early age and was an active member for as long as her health allowed at Hillcrest Baptist Church. She faithfully read her Bible and listened to gospel music.
Although she was a woman small in stature, her legacy of love and faith is vast and undisputed. Former Pastor and longtime friend to the Harris family, Reverend Charles Chatman wrote, “Susie is such a pure soul, faithful in her commitment to care for and love her family.” Susie was sincerely devoted to her beautiful mother, Mabel, age 95, and enjoyed their many years together. While she was a quiet, humble, contented Christian lady, Susie was also an independent thinker, fun loving, with a sparkling sense of humor. Whether working puzzles or playing highly competitive Bingo, up to five cards at a time, her competitive nature was more infectious than winning the prize at BINGO! Very few people knew of her quiet strength, fighting for her life, never giving up, never complaining, persevering through many challenges until the day her Savior called her home.
Memorial contributions to Upward Basketball at Hillcrest Church may be made through the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Friends may call at their convenience. Burial will be in Hazelgreen Cemetery under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.
