Carolyn J. (Marler) Ward (Seymour)'s Obituary
Carolyn Ward, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, companion and friend peacefully departed this life with family at her side the evening of Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was eighty-six years, four months and eighteen days wise.
One of three children, she was born Carolyn Jean Marler on August 24, 1933, in Diggins, Missouri, to George W. and Doris E. (Martin) Marler. She was raised in Seymour and a graduate of the Seymour High School Class of 1951. After graduation, she traveled to Wichita, Kansas, where she met Ovis Ward, a serviceman in the United States Air Force. They were married and to this union two sons, Ricky and David, were born.
In 1965, Carolyn moved back to Seymour to be with her family, and then to Ozark, Missouri, in 1970, where she lived the remainder of her years. For many years Carolyn was employed at the Zenith tv facility, then eventually retiring from the Walmart in south Springfield. During the early 1980's she met Calvin Hlavaty who would become her life-long partner. Together they shared many happy years until his passing in 2009.
Carolyn enjoyed gardening, traveling, and bird watching. She loved flowers, especially roses. She was a great cook and seamstress, as her mother had taught her to sew in earlier years.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Ward; sister, Kathleen Childress; brother, Billy Marler; and her loving companion, Calvin Hlavaty.
She is survived by her son, David Ward and wife, Kelly, of Sparta, Missouri; four grandchildren, Matthew Bardwell of Sparta, Dalston Ward who currently resides overseas, Katlyn Ward of Parker Colorado, and Michael Ward of Springfield; the father of her children, Ovis Ward of Phoenix City, Alabama, also survives.
