Carolyn Wilson (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Carolyn Rea (Bays) Wilson, affectionately known as Sissy, was born March 15, 1967 and passed away August 18, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.
Born in Canoga Park, California to Earshel and Carolyn (Campbell) Bays. Carolyn graduated from Bolivar High School in 1985, and later Southwest Baptist University in 1989.
Carolyn played percussion for the BHS marching band and performed with them at the grand opening of Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar where she would later go on to work for 31 years.
In 1972, the Bays family moved to Polk, Missouri. The family owned the Polk Store where she worked and learned her amazing work ethic. This is also when Sissy (age 5) met Darrell Wilson (age 7) for the first time. She would joke that he was the first boy she ever met that wasn’t family. Carolyn and Darrell began dating in 1998 and were wed on May 1, 2010. From this relationship she gained three sons, Marcus, Kristopher, and Steven.
Carolyn was a loving daughter who learned to make yarn from the Angora rabbits she raised and how to crochet from her mother. She would give handmade towels as gifts and even had a towel of the month club. She loved chickens and roosters and grew the collection her mother had started.
Sis had some health troubles throughout her life, but she never let this bring her down. She kept a smile on her face and was up for anything. She always talked about the road trips her parents took them on as kids. They just grabbed a map and told her and her sister Cari to point and away they would go. She loved to travel and said that was where her love for adventure came from.
She loved old movies and would rewatch favorites over and over again. She loved The Sound of Music and Svengoolie. She enjoyed fishing, camping, playing Pitch, gardening, and lovingly referred to their hobby farm as her green acres.
Carolyn was saved and baptized on September 18, 2010 at Fairview United Methodist Church.
Carolyn loved her family very much and got so much joy out of being with them. You couldn’t ask for a more devoted and loyal wife, daughter, sister, aunt or Nana. She made every holiday an occasion and was always taking pictures of her grandbabies. Some would say she spoiled them rotten. She never got to be a full time mom until the last few years of her life when she was able to raise 4 of her granddaughters. She was their world.
Sis will be remembered by all who knew her in so many ways. She meant something different to each of us, may have had a different title or name, but everyone who knew her will remember her with love.
Survived by husband Darrell and granddaughters Jaycina, Jayden, Jayla and June of the home. Sons Marcus Wilson and wife Elizabeth, Kristopher Wilson, and Steven Wilson. Grandchildren Caitlyn, Kendall and Kingston. Sister Cari Vega and husband Richard. Nephew Mitchell and niece Alyson. Great nieces Loraina and Parker Jane. She was preceded in death by her parents Earshel and Carolyn Bays.
