Catherine Wilcox's Obituary
Catherine Jane Cadwell Wilcox, 74 of Mansfield, Missouri passed away on November 10, 2010 in her home after a short illness.
She was born on January 5, 1936 in Randalsville, New York to John and Casalene Oakes Cadwell.
Catherine moved to Clinton, New York in 1957 and later to Mission Viejo, California in 1971.
She married James R. Wilcox on July 27, 1963 in St. James Episcopal Church in Clinton, New York with the Reverend John H. Gordon celebrating the wedding nuptials.
Catherine was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, New York , State University of New York(Cortland) and Syracuse University.
Her career was in teaching elementary school where she taught from 1957 to 1962 in Clinton, New York; crippled children at Bettcher School in Denver, Colorado from 1962 to 1963; students of the deaf and hard-of-hearing in Rome, New York from 1963 to 1971; Christian elementary school in San Juan Capistrano, California from 1976 to 2004. Catherine’s part time service was given to the mentally disabled adults at Mosquero House in Mission Viejo, California and to the Mission Viejo Racquet and Swim Club as a staff member.
She had a great love of music and children’s literature. While at Capistrano Valley Christian School she served as assistant librarian for several years and loved reading to the students.
In her retirement years, she served as organist at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Santa Monica, California and choir member at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church in Orange, California where her husband was rector.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Cadwell.
Her husband survives her as well as one son, Michael Wilcox of New York City; one daughter, Stacey Wilcox Bishop and her husband Samuel of Mansfield, Missouri; a brother Lionel Cadwell and his wife Linda of Randalsville, New York; three grandchildren, Samantha, Shyanne and Silas Bishop all of Mansfield, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Barbara Cadwell of Oneida, New York as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine Jane Wilcox will be held at 2:00p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Mansfield.
Visitation will be 7-8:00 p.m. Friday evening in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Mansfield, Missouri.
Burial will be in the Mansfield Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield.
