Cecil Couch's Obituary
Cecil Sherwood Couch, son of Claude and Fannie Dixon Couch, was born July 4, 1922, in Emory, Texas. He departed this life Sunday, August 27, 2006, in East Texas Medical Center, in Athens, Texas, at the age of eighty-four years, one month, and twenty-three days. On January 8, 1944, he married Dorothy Jean Poynter and together they shared the last sixty-two years. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Billy, Jr., David, and Tony. Cecil is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Jean, of the home; Julio Almaraz, who was like a son to him; two brothers, Harold Couch, of Malakoff, Texas, and Clayton Couch, of Dallas, Texas; a sister-in-law, Janice Gross, and her husband, Larry, of Camdenton, Missouri; several nieces and nephews in Missouri whom he loved very much; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in East Texas. As a young man, he entered the U. S. Army, serving from 1943 to 1946, during World War II. He received the Victory medal, Good Conduct medal, and American Theatre ribbon, as well as a ribbon for Sharpshooter. Eventually, he and Dorothy Jean made their home in Dallas, Texas, where he owned and operated the Cecil Couch Auto Salvage Yard. Cecil followed the Baptist faith. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and gardening, as well as watching movies. His wife and family were especially important to him and he enjoyed time spent with them. Cecil will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of his family and many friends. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Lebanon. Burial will be in Veterans' Park at Mount Rose Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday from 12:00 (noon) until service time. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
