Charlene "Shawn" Hoppers (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Charlene “Shawn” Gale (Carson) Hoppers, daughter of Odie C. Carson and Martha Lee (Greer) Carson, was born on January 29, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life on December 5, 2024, at Citizens Memorial Hospital. At the time of her passing, she was 83 years, 10 months, and 6 days of age.
Charlene moved to the Hermitage area in 1957 with her family. The little acreage was what would later be known as Carson’s Corner. Charlene was a member of the Hermitage Baptist Church. She was saved and baptized at an early age. She attended several churches in the Hickory and Dallas County area. Her most loved time in church was in Rio Hondo, Texas with her favorite teacher and pastor, Rev. Gene Horton. One of Charlene’s favorite pastimes was reading and studying the bible. She could quote many scriptures and discuss many subjects. She was a follower of Christ and one of His beloved children. Also, she loved music, dancing, and celebrating holidays with family.
Charlene met the love of her life, Lonnie George Hoppers, in 1957 and they were united in marriage on September 16, 1959. To this union, one daughter, Lorrie Lee (Hoppers) Cobb was born. Lorrie was the highlight of Charlene’s life.
Charlene lived in Lee’s Summit and worked as a homemaker and in real estate sales with Re-Max. She later moved to the Ozarks area in 1978 and traveled with Lonnie working at Silver Dollar City, and later playing the guitar and singing with him. Charlene had a full and busy life traveling to Texas and around to various Bluegrass festivals.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie, who passed away on November 17, of this year. They were married for 65 years and together for 67. She is with him now as she was lost without her friend and partner. “Like a true gentleman, he went on ahead to make sure things were ready for her. It is indeed a special love story.” I can only imagine the Welcome Home she experienced.
Charlene is survived by her daughter, Lorrie Lee (Hoppers) cobb, sister Lou Carson Hillman, granddaughter Erika Shawn Trimble, and grandson Carson Nikolas Trimble. Two great grandchildren, Jaymes Richoz and Benjamin Baca-Castex, brother-in-law Danny Hoppers and wife Melody. She also leaves behind several nephews and nieces, and many friends she met over the years. She was a loving and gracious lady who always had an extra place at her table. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Graveside services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Pleasent Ridge Cemetery near Urbana, Missouri under the direction of Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home, Buffalo, Mo.
