Charles D. Vernon's Obituary
harles Owen Vernon, son of Owen and Exie Adkins Vernon, was born November 24, 1925, in Bristow, Oklahoma. He departed this life Saturday, April 5, 2008 in St. John’s Hospital-Lebanon at the age of eighty-two years, four months, and eleven days. He was united in marriage on March 15, 1965, to Marion Jean McPhail and they shared thirty-nine years together before her passing on March 29, 2004. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion, and one brother, Clyde. He is survived by one son, Jim Vernon, and his wife, Jody, of Lilburn, Georgia; a daughter, Debbie Charter, of Marietta, Georgia; three step-sons, James Mangano, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Don Mangano, of Orange, California, and Willie Mangano, of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Charles was born and spent his early years in Oklahoma. He then came with his family to the Lebanon area and was a graduate of the Lebanon High School. Charles entered the United States Marine Corps and served in Japan during World War II. After being honorably discharged on November 15, 1946, he lived for a time in the Kansas City, Missouri area, where he was employed with General Motors. He later went to California, where he was employed as an apartment manager. Charles made his profession of faith and was baptized in 1956 in Independence, Missouri. He had a sweet disposition and was known for his dry sense of humor. Charles loved to listen to the St. Louis Cardinals and in his spare time enjoyed gardening and completing jigsaw puzzles. He also had a talent for fixing broken items. Charles was a loving father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We will treasure the memories that he left for his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Atchley Blackfoot Cemetery. Visitation will follow the service. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
