Charles Joel Wilson (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Charles Joel Wilson, son of Henry and Marie Childers Wilson, was born November 21, 1931, in Sweetwater, Texas. He departed this life Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, five months, and twenty-four days.
On December 19, 1976, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Dawn Cox, and they shared the last thirty-five years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bob Wilson; and a sister, Betty Wilson Leininger.
Charles is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of the home; three sons, Charles R. Wilson, and his wife, Wanita, Christopher Wilson, and his wife, Misty, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Don Wilson, of San Diego, California; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the State of Washington, where he graduated from high school. He entered the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Army from 1948 until 1954. During the Korean War, he was a Prisoner of War for a time. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he made his home in Orange County, California, where he worked as a truck driver. He then moved to Weatherford, Texas, and worked as a diesel mechanic for several years. In the early 1980’s, he and Carolyn moved to the Lebanon, Missouri area and made their home. Since moving to Lebanon, Charles had worked as a security officer at Copeland Corporation.
He had a great passion for horses, loved riding, and had worked as a trainer for several years. He was a cowboy at heart and liked being outdoors. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them throughout the years.
