Charles Lorenzo's Obituary
Charles A. Lorenzo, the eldest of three brothers and four sisters, was born March 9, 1917, in the Philippine Islands. He departed this life Friday, October 19, 2007, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, seven months, and ten days. On December 25, 1959, he was united in marriage to Tadako Matushita, and to this union one son was born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tadako, in 1986; and his brothers and sisters. Charles is survived by his son, Roy Lorenzo, and his wife, Linda “Bunnie”, of Nixa, Missouri; his granddaughters, Erica, Paige, and Taylor, all of Nixa, Missouri; two stepdaughters, Jean Rountree, and her husband, Robert, and Joy Roberts, all of Atlanta, Georgia; a very special, loving friend who was devoted to Charles for many years, Lois Qualls, of Lebanon, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was born and raised in the Philippines and then enlisted in the United States Army in 1937. During World War II, he was a prisoner of war and was a survivor of the Bataan Death March. In 1946, Charles became a naturalized citizen of the United States. He continued to serve in the Army for thirty years, and was last stationed at Fort Leonard Wood where he was a drill sergeant for ten years. He moved his family to Lebanon in 1960 and they made their home. After retiring from the Army in 1967, he worked at the Louise G. Wallace-Rowden Hospital in Lebanon until he turned 65. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post # 4107 and the American Legion. During his retirement, he enjoyed dancing at the Hughes Senior Center and playing bingo throughout the area where he made numerous friends. Charles was a devoted family man that also loved his country and served it with great pride. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery, Springfield Missouri. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary or the Cancer Research Program may be made through the funeral home.
