Charles R. 'Charlie' Haywood, Jr. (Seymour)'s Obituary
Charles R. Haywood, Jr., longtime Seymour resident and community supporter was born on May 8, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Charles R. Haywood Sr. and Doris (Korhammer) Haywood. Charlie was a graduate of Webster Groves High School. He received a computer programming degree from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. Charlie was married to Judy Vaccaro in 1963. The birth of their first daughter, Cheryl, was in 1967 and their second daughter, Susan, was born in 1970. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and taking camping trips with his family and friends.
After college, he started at Anheuser Busch as a computer programmer. While working at AB, he completed his MBA at University of Missouri St. Louis. He became Vice President of Management Information Systems. His last position in St. Louis was Assistant to President, August Busch III. After 25 years at Anheuser Busch, he moved to Dallas, TX. He was selected as part of a team to set up Campbell Taggart Bakery, a subsidiary of Anheuser Busch.
While in Dallas, he pursued his love of photography by taking classes and developing his own photographs. He enjoyed traveling around the United States. After retiring from Campbell Taggart, he began a career in real estate, which he continued after moving back to his home state of Missouri.
In 1999, he moved to Seymour, where he worked with at Rudolph Realtors. He worked at Carol Jones Realtors, Century 21 Realty and Rocking K Realtors. Eventually, he left the work force for a second time to put his full commitments into community service, which included: The Seymour Lion’s Club, where he held every office there was, and was currently serving as president…for the third time. He also held offices at the district level. He was also involved in Webster County Senior Services Board, Board Member of the Great Seymour Area Foundation – President, Secretary and Treasurer – varying times, Seymour Merchants Association – long time Secretary, Seymour Area Arts Council – long time treasurer, Seymour Senior Citizen’s Center - Board Member, Fordland Clinic – Board Member and Treasurer, Seymour Historical Society – Board Member, Seymour Senior Housing Authority – former Board Member, “Save the Owen” Committee – Treasurer, and Seymour R2 School District CARES Levy Committee – Treasurer. Charlie was also one of the original owners and founders of the Super 8 Motel in Seymour.
On October 31, 2020, Charlie passed away in his home. He is survived by Judy Haywood and their two daughters, Cheryl Burke and husband, Matt, of Weldon Spring, Missouri, and Susan Haywood of Bayonne, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Kate Burke, Ryan Burke, Russell Schmitt, and Jesse Schmitt; his brother, David Haywood and wife, Diane, of Fenton, Missouri; and niece, Alicia Busso, husband, Brian and their daughters Carina and Gwen.
Charlie will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and integrity, as well as for his ability to liven up a room! He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Memorials in Charlie’s honor may be made to Lions Club of Seymour or Owens Theater.
