Charles Ullum's Obituary
Mr. Charles Oliver Ullum, age 84, of Leon, Kansas went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday evening, January 31, 2011 at the home of his niece, Jean Gilkerson in Bolivar, Missouri.
He was born May 27, 1926 in Leon, Kansas to Charles Lewis Ullum and Ruth Bell (Lineback) Ullum.
Oliver served in the United States Navy during World War II as an armed Guard on a merchant ship. He was also on several other Ships during the war.
He retired from Boeing Aircraft as a Machinist in Wichita, Kansas after working 30 years. He and his mother milked dairy cows for a while after his retirement. He was a current member at the First Assembly of God Church in Augusta, Kansas where he also served on the church board as a Deacon for many years. He was interested in many projects. As a boy, he herded sheep in Oklahoma and picked cotton. Later in life he was interested in building houses and had a large interest in oil wells.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Delbert Ullum.
Oliver is survived by his sister, Betty Wickham of Visalia, California, his brother, Kenneth Ullum and his wife Billie of Cross Timbers, Missouri, an aunt Maxine in Washington State, several cousins, six nieces, two nephews and many great nephews and great nieces who all loved him very much.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Jason Moppin officiating. Musical selections will be "Serenaded By Angels" and "What A Day That Will Be" being sung by Susan Warstadt, Melinda Lopez, Andrea Childs, and Jessica Wallace with Corey Childs playing the piano. There will be a congregational song, "Amazing Grace". There will be a video presentation played at the end of the service. A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Leon Cemetery in Leon, Kansas with Reverend Gene Kauffman officiating. Pallbearers will be Todd Gilkerson, Nathan Warstadt, Arturo Lopez, Jason Moppin, E.A. Tong, David Ullum, Brent Rainey and Levi Ullum. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles F. Ullum, Wayne Rainey, Kenneth Stivey, Dee Dunlap and Larry Tong. Local arrangements are under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God Church, 3626 Ohio Street, Augusta, Kansas 67010-2381.
