Charles O West (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Charles Owen West, son of Jesse James and Carrie LaVina Hamilton West, was born July 31, 1937, in Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, February 13, 2013, near Osage Beach, Missouri, at the age of seventy-five years, six months, and twelve days.
On June 24, 1993, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Marie Claxton McCormick, and they shared the last nineteen years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-son, Stephen Lawson; two brothers, Cecil and Everett “Buck” West; and three sisters, Terry Ann West, Bertha Roberts, and Louise Gerard.
Charles is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of the home; two step-daughters, Laurie Mosier, and her husband, Allen, and Robin Johnson, and her husband, Charles, all of Lebanon, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Mikeal, Mark, Evan, Destanie, Damon, Jennifer, and Brittany; a great-grandson, Cooper; four brothers, William Roy West, of Lebanon, Missouri, Jesse West, of Sherman, Texas, James “Jim” West, of Batesville, Arkansas, and Jerry West, of Plano, Texas; three sisters, Violet Maynard, of Lebanon, Missouri, Bonnie West, of Lynchburg, Missouri, and Helen West, of Odessa, Texas; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Lebanon, Missouri area. He joined the United States Navy as a young man, and served his country faithfully for twelve years. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Enterprise and spent time in Hawaii and in the Pacific Ocean area. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on February 11, 1967, and then returned to the Lebanon area. After he and Bonnie were married, they made their home near Lebanon. Throughout the years, Charles worked as an electrician and operated West Electric.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, and buying and trading things. He had a delightful sense of humor and liked to laugh. He always enjoyed spending time with his family.
Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
