Charley Kirkland's Obituary
Charley Curtis Kirkland, son of Louis and Georgia (Detherage) Kirkland, was born July 26, 1915, in Girdner, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, March 26, 2006, in his home, near Mansfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, and nine months. In 1933, he was united in marriage to Gladys Sanders and to this union one son and one daughter were born. She preceded him in death, in 1964. He later married Wilma Harrison in 1965, who also preceded him in death in 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a beloved granddaughter, Shannon Kirkland; an infant granddaughter, Gladys Robeen; three brothers, Roy, Harley, and Clarence Kirkland; and two sisters, Rosa Lyons, and Opal Kirkland. Charley is survived by a daughter, Wilma Robeen, and her husband, Jerry, of Springfield, Missouri; a son, Charles “Sonny” Kirkland, and his wife, Lana, of Mansfield, Missouri; two grandchildren, Greg Kirkland, and his wife, Katrina, of Mansfield, Missouri, and Gina Culpepper, and her husband, Thomas, of Dallas, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Charles, Tucker, and Courtney Kirkland, and Noah and Caroline Culpepper; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born at Girdner, but lived most of his life near Mansfield where he farmed, managed Richards Brothers Grocery Store, and drove a school bus for Mansfield Schools for many years. Charley had made his profession of faith in Christ, and was a member of Mansfield First Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved to travel to Montana and Idaho. Charley was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield. burial will be in the Mansfield Cemetery. visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday. Memorial contributions to Community Hospice may be made through the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield, Missouri.
