He then made his home in Iowa where he and Pauline lovingly raised their children. For many years, he was a heavy equipment operator in the Davenport, Iowa area. In 1989, he and Pauline retired and moved back to the Lebanon area.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing woodworking projects. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn and also several others in the area. He had a delightful sense of humor and liked to laugh. He was also a bit of flirt at times. His family and friends were very important to him.
