He departed this life Friday, July 27, 2007 due to injuries sustained in an auto accident, near his home, at the age of nineteen years, eleven months and twenty-five days. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Thomas J. Moore. Chris is survived by his mother, Melissa Newby and her husband, Samuel, of Hartville, Missouri; his father, Craig Smith and his wife, Angela, of Potosi, Missouri; one brother, Micheal Stuart Smith and his wife, Krista, of Barnett, Missouri; a half sister, Samantha Jo Newby, of Hartville, Missouri; a step-sister, Nickole Ann Crocker and her husband, Richard, of Ironton, Missouri; one niece, Taylor Smith; one nephew, Braden Ford; his maternal grandmother, Gertrude Moore, of Leesville, Louisiana; his paternal grandparents, Roy Lee and Emilie Jane Smith, of Demming, New Mexico; his paternal great-grandmother, Mary Joyce Barton, of Alton, Missouri; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; as well as a special friend and employer, Richard and B.J. Hicks and Harold Eugene Buckley. Chris was born in Crystal City and spent most of his childhood in the Potosi area, where he attended and graduated high school. He lived in the area until moving to the Hartville area two years ago. For nearly two years, he had worked for Hicks Concrete Construction. He was very good at his job, and was a dependable, hard worker, with a wonderful attitude. Chris was a friend to everyone and had a heart of gold; he affectionately was known among his friends as “Einstein.” He had a great tan line and was very muscular, and liked showing them off whenever the chance arose. In his spare time, Chris enjoyed playing in the mud, working on his truck, going to various truck and tractor pulls, as well as golfing and playing his X-Box. Chris was a loving son, brother, uncle, grandson, great-grandson, cousin and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville. Burial will be in Little Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 - 4:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri.
