Jerald is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Berniece, of Springfield, Missouri; two daughters, Debra Burns, and her husband, Gary, of Rogersville, Missouri, and Suzanne Montgomery, and her husband, Jerry, of Republic, Missouri; four grandchildren, Sarah Edmonds, and her husband, Mike, Amanda Myers, all of Springfield, Missouri, Jared Montgomery, of Chicago, Illinois, and Ryan Montgomery, of Republic, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Baker, Taylor Edmonds, and Dylan Edmonds; a sister, Sherry Haney, and her husband, Bob, of Springfield, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Bill Patton, of Springfield, Missouri, and Bob Turner, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews; two aunts, Pansy Turner and Sonya Adkins, both of Lebanon, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was born and raised in the Phillipsburg community, and graduated from Buffalo High School in the Class of 1950. After he and Berniece were married, they made their home in Lebanon, and lovingly raised their daughters. In April of 1953, Jerald entered the United States Army and served in Germany for seventeen months, during the Korean War. When he returned from the military, Jerald began working at Detroit Tool Company in Lebanon. On March 9, 1959, he made a career change and went to work for Hutchens Industries, where he worked for thirty-two years, retiring on July 1, 1991.
Jerald was a member of the Church of Christ and most recently worshipped with the Mission Hills congregation in Springfield. While living in Lebanon, he attended the Hayes Street Church of Christ and the Lee’s Summit Church of Christ, near Long Lane, where he was baptized as a young man.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and liked watching his grandsons play basketball and football. He also enjoyed trout fishing at Bennett Spring and Lake Taneycomo, as well as hunting quail, turkey, and pheasant. For many years, Jerald made an annual trip to Kansas with family members and friends to pheasant hunt.
Jerald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them throughout the years.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, and left at the funeral home.
