Clara Calton's Obituary
Clara Ruthene Calton, daughter of Ed “Banty” and Blanch Shank, was born March 5, 1927, near Phillipsburg, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, September 19, 2008, in Green Haven Nursing Home, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one years, six months, and fourteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donnie Shank; and a step-sister, Hazel Shank. Clara is survived by a son, Larry Calton, and his wife, Paulette, of West Plains, Missouri; two grandchildren, Larry Calton, II, and Aspen Calton; four great-grandchildren, Anna, Benjamin, Bailey, and Courtney; a sister-in-law, Mary Shank, of Union City, New Jersey; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Phillipsburg community, and graduated from Phillipsburg High School. She then made her home in the Phillipsburg and Conway area for several years before moving to Springfield. In addition to being a devoted homemaker and mother, she also worked at The Associates Finance Company in Springfield for several years. Clara was a member of Phillipsburg Christian Church early in her life and was currently a member of Parkview Christian Church in Springfield, Missouri. In her spare time she enjoyed visiting her son in Colorado where they would go horseback riding, and take trips in a snowmobile. They also took a special ride once in a race car. She had a love for the great outdoors and liked being near the water and especially fishing. She always liked to travel and particularly liked taking long rides in the country. She loved being around people and dearly enjoyed her family. Clara was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be at 2:00 pm Monday September 22, 2008 at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be at 1:00pm until time of service under the direction of the Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memroial has been established to the Phillipsburg Christian Church.
