Claudie Barber (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Claudie Martin Barber, son of Merle and Minnie H. Corkery Barber, was born September 29, 1920, near Sleeper, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, November 10, 2012, in the Missouri Veterans Home, in St. James, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, one month, and eleven days.
On April 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Eunice Pauline Shivers, and together they shared fifty-nine years before her passing on July 7, 2006.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Jerry Graves, in 2008; eight brothers, Opie, Ed, Joe, Merle, James, Jessie, Sheddie, and Howard; and three sisters, Grace, Suzie, and Maggie.
Claudie is survived by a daughter, Remonia Graves, of Rolla, Missouri; three grandchildren, David Graves, of Fenton, Missouri, Douglas Graves, of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Darla Palmer, of Tucson, Arizona; four great-grandchildren, Zach, Samantha, McKenzie, and McKayla; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was born and raised on the Barber family farm near Sleeper, Missouri, and attended Mayfield School. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from December 8, 1942, until January 17, 1946, during World War II. Soon after he returned home from the war, he and Eunice were married, and they made their home on their cattle and horse farm, near Sleeper, where they lovingly raised their daughter and continued to live for several decades. Claudie was a United States Civil Service worker for a number of years, in addition to operating his farm.
Claudie was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lebanon, for many years.
In his spare time he enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music, fishing, and working with his cattle and horses. He was a dedicated caregiver to his wife, Eunice, throughout the years. He possessed a delightful sense of humor and loved to laugh. His family was very important to him and he was very proud of his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Claudie was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will fondly remember him as a devoted family man, a hard worker, a faithful Christian, and a patriotic citizen.
