Once the family moved to the Grovespring area, they purchased a farm where Clayton had a cow and calf operation for many years.
Clayton professed his faith in Christ early in his life and was a member of Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church. He later enjoyed attending services at the Phillipsburg Christian Church. He had a deep, abiding faith in God and loved gospel music. He always enjoyed attending the Brumley Gospel Sings each year.
He had a love for horses and horseback riding and taught his grandchildren how to ride. He greatly enjoyed going to Bull Shoals and Lake Pomme de Terre and had taught all of his grandchildren to swim and water ski. He was a devoted runner and he and Ellene used to go on daily running adventures. He also liked to ride his four-wheeler and travel. His family was always at the center of his life and he especially enjoyed times with his grandchildren. He was an excellent manager and was steadfast in his convictions.
Clayton was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments, and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated civil servant and farmer, and a thoughtful, Christian man.
