Cleo Bridges (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Cleo Genevieve “Genny” Griffitt Bridges, 97 of Grain Valley Missouri died Jan. 13, 2019 at the home of her grandson, Geoffery Bridges and his wife Lara Bond Bridges in Grain Valley.
She was born Oct. 29, 1921 in Richards, Colorado, and was the daughter of the late Claude and Lola (Milby) Griffitt of Slater, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Elza Bridges and son Richard Cleveland Bridges.
She is survived by two grandsons: Geoffery (Lara) Bridges, Scott (Alicia) Bridges, five great-grandchildren: Larry Blain (Lauren) Bridges, Alli Mai Bridges (Shawn) Mindham, Geoffery Dane Bridges, Alaina Bridges (Garrett) Holmes, Anessa Bridges, and two great great grandchildren: Tannin Mindham and Leona Mindham.
She grew up in Saline County, MO during the war and rode a horse to attend classes at Mt. Horeb School. She later worked making undergarments for the military at Rice-Stick Garment Factory in Slater, MO. She married Elza Bridges, also of Saline County, on July 29, 1939 at the Cumberland Presbyterian church parsonage in Marshall, Missouri. The couple resided on a farm in Polk County in the 1940s, then moved to Kansas City, Missouri and Independence, Missouri. She worked as an inventory clerk at Montgomery Wards and served as a bus Monitor at Blue Ridge School until her retirement in 1981. The couple retired to Pomme de Terre Lake and then to Bolivar, Missouri. She lived in Bolivar until 2016; at that time, she moved to the home of her grandson, Geoff Bridges, in Grain Valley, Missouri.
She enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved flowers and was a gifted gardener and grower. She was a member of Southside Missionary Baptist Church in Bolivar. Her deep Christian faith was known to all who knew and loved her.
Services will be held Friday, January 18 at Butler Funeral Home, Bolivar, Mo. Visitation will be held 12 noon - 1:00pm, and services at 1:00pm. After the services, we will proceed to the burial at Hopewell Cemetery in Louisburg, Mo (approx 30 minute drive from Bolivar).
Arrangements are under the direction of Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri.
Visitation for Cleo will be from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 18, 2019, with services to follow at 1:00, at Butler Funeral Home, Bolivar, Missouri. Burial will be at Hope Well Cemetery, Louisburg, Missouri.
