Connie Sue Porter (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Connie Sue Porter, daughter of Robert P. and Emma Young Martley, was born June 22, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, March 26, 2017, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-three years, nine months, and four days.
On May 1, 1970, she was united in marriage to Sherman Everett Porter, and to this union two daughters and one son were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sherman; two brothers, Lloyd and Donnie Martley; and a sister, Ada Moore.
Connie is survived by two daughters, Ruth Candler, and her significant other, Preston Shivers, and Melissa McDaniel, and her significant other, Leo Garcia; a son, Patrick Porter, and his significant other, Mandie Cowan, of Buffalo, Missouri; five grandchildren, Courtney, Nikki, Patrick Jr., Cheyenne, and Crystine;
four great-grandchildren, Johnse, Emma, Ana “Bird”, and Liz; two sisters, Peggy Stilts, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Etta Bell, of the State of Kansas; a sister-in-law, Wanda Martley, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in the Kansas City area until she was five years old. She then moved with her family to a farm near Lebanon, and attended Lebanon R-III Schools. She was employed by the H. D. Lee Company for several years and then was the assistant manager at Hardee’s for a number of years. Through the years, she was also a devoted homemaker to her husband and family.
In her spare she enjoyed fishing, and doing paintings on fabric. She was a good cook and made excellent cinnamon rolls. She had a delightful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her family was most important to her and she made them the center of her life.
Connie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
