Cordely Geneva Johnson (Seymour)'s Obituary
Cordely Geneva Johnson, daughter and one of twelve children of George Columbus and Alma Elizabeth Hyder Napier, was born June 22, 1933, in Wright County near Seymour, Missouri. She departed this life on Sunday, March 9, 2014, in WebCo Manor in Marshfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, eight months and fifteen days.
The Napier family was raised in rural Wright County. It has been said that she would meet her future husband at a pie supper after being set up by mutual friends, and on July 8, 1949, she was united in marriage to Hershel D. Johnson; to this union six children were born. The Johnsons moved to Seymour in 1966, and built a life for their children on the family farm. Geneva and Hershel raised dairy cows, but he also worked outside the home in Vollenweider’s Orchard and she at Brown Shoe and then H.D. Lee until the plant closed its doors. In their spare time, Geneva and Hershel had a passion for gardening and spent many a summer canning and freezing countless tomatoes and other vegetables.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Hershel, who passed away March 18, 2003; infant son, Robert Johnson; son, George Johnson; daughter, Alma Lowder; and grandson, Eric Lowder; infant sister, Goldie, and sister, Betty; and brothers, Otis, Howard, Jim and Olin.
Geneva leaves behind daughter, Janice Hummel of Seymour, Missouri; son, Roger Johnson and wife Rhonda, of Seymour, Missouri; and son, Junior Johnson and wife Tish, of Seymour, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Brenda Jones, Dale Galbraith, Linda Harmon, Nikita Johnson, Dallas Johnson, Courtney Krick, Colten Johnson and Catie Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Brandi Jones, Kylie Stubblefield, Krissy Galbraith, Zach Galbraith and Cassi Galbraith; and one great-great-grandchild, Kinsli; brother, Gene Napier of Seymour, Missouri; brother, Bill Napier and wife Shirley, of Hartville, Missouri; sister, Dorothy Alexander and husband Leroy, of Aurora, Missouri; sister, Bertha Bennett of Macomb, Missouri; and sister, Patsy Glenn of Ozark, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.
Cordely Geneva Johnson was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, caring sister and loyal friend. She will be remembered as a hard-working woman with a huge heart for family and friends. This day we will celebrate her life and accomplishments. We will always treasure every memory she created for us and each precious moment we were able to spend with her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
