Daisy Fay Carpenter (Urbana)'s Obituary
Daisy Fay Carpenter, daughter of Edward and Mable Street, was born in Ratt, Missouri on November 17, 1926, and departed this life on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Lake Regional Medical Facility in Osage Beach, Missouri. She was at the time of her passing 96 years, three months, and five days of age.
Daisy was preceded by her husband, Paul Eugene Carpenter; her son, Dannie Carpenter; her parents; and five of her six siblings, Freda Wilma Skaggs, Paul Edward Street, Leroy Bruce Street, Howard Ray Street, and Clyde Burnell Street. She is survived by her daughter, Doris Fink and husband Jim of Lake Ozark, Missouri; one sister, Donna Jean Talarski of Show Low, Arizona; three grandchildren, Angela Carpenter, Chad Carpenter and wife Dianna, and Jason Fink and wife Kerry; eight great-grandchildren, Ashely Dreyer and husband Derek, Tara Shockley, Lake Shockley and wife Kelly, Chanch Carpenter and wife Ashley, Westley Carpenter and wife Jessica, Autumn Boussel, Madison Duggan, and Kaine Fink; 12 great-great-grandchildren, Bentley Dreyer, Kimber Dreyer, Marly Sowder, Luna Sowder, Daemond Shockley, Charlie Carpenter, Claire Carpenter, Caroline Carpenter, Cal Carpenter, Colt Carpenter, Lucas Carpenter, and Barrett Carpenter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The summer between Daisy’s junior and senior year she traveled to St. Louis to work for the war effort as a Rosie the Riveter during World War II in a factory called the Small Arms Factory. While working there she met her future husband, Paul Eugene Carpenter. She returned to finish her senior year at Bunker High School. They were married in June of that year. She then worked at Brown Shoe Company in Clayton, MO for 25 years as a key punch operator and various other clerical duties until 1976 when she retired and relocated to Urbana and purchased a farm where they realized their lifelong dream of becoming self-sufficient from the land. She continued to raise a huge garden and canned and supplied her friends and neighbors with vegetables until 2020. She loved to be outside and working in her garden.
Daisy and Paul built and ran a convenience store called the Hooch House with her brother Clyde and sister-in-law Nancy near Pomme de Terre Lake, which was ironic since she never had a drink in her life. She kept the store open on holidays as “someone might have forgot to buy something they needed for their holiday meal.” She joined the Order of the Eastern Stars Masonic appendant body both to men and women. She was a member from 1981 until her passing in 2023. She was Worthy Matron 12 times and Grand Representative twice. She was a dedicated member of Olive Point Baptist Church and served as Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School, summer camp and after school programs for many years.
Daisy was the glue that held the family together.
She always had family over for dinner on Sundays so she could visit her brothers, sisters and their children. Everyone always left with a full stomach. She cared for her mother, Aunt Bess, and Uncle George until their passing. She was always willing to help anyone in need. We have lost a lot of family history with her passing, remembering dates, times and special occasions that most of us had already forgotten. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Olive Point Baptist Church in Preston, Missouri with Pastor Terry Gentry officiating. Interment will follow the service at Bower Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home in Urbana, Missouri.
