Daisy Prewitt's Obituary
Daisy Dean Prewitt, daughter of James K. “Polk” and Lulu Agnes (Dean) McHaffie, was born April 3, 1927 near Sparta, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, March 6, 2009 at her home in Seymour, Missouri at the age of eighty-one years, eleven months, and three days.
On September 6, 1947 Daisy was united in marriage to Maurice Theed Prewitt and to this union two sons and two daughters were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Maurice on November 30, 2003; a granddaughter, Jamie Sue Prewitt; a brother, Dave McHaffie; and three sisters, Emma Davis, Bertha Todd, and Julie Cornelison.
Daisy is survived by two sons, Wenford Prewitt and his wife Betty, and Victor Prewitt all of Seymour, Missouri; two daughters, Dorothy Roy and her husband Danny, and Betty Gray, all of Seymour, Missouri; seven grandchildren, James Helms, Sherri Strong, Angela Sutton, Jeff Prewitt, Joseph Swopes, Patricia Prewitt, and Joseph Prewitt; fifteen great-grandchildren, Kursten, Kolby, Rebecca, Kenzie, Ashton, Dakota, Autumn, Breana, Jacob, Joshua, Steele, Benjamin, David, Jonathan, and Elisabeth; three sisters, Brooksie Dalton of Seymour, Missouri, Pearl McHaffie of Sparta, Missouri, and Ruby Cook of Springfield, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Daisy grew up south of Fordland, Missouri in Christian County. Following her marriage to Maurice, they lived in California, Idaho, and Springfield, Missouri before moving to their farm near Seymour where they operated a dairy for many years. Besides being a devoted homemaker, she considered herself a farm wife, helping Maurice with milking and other outside chores. She had also worked for a short time at Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory in Mansfield.
She had accepted Christ as her Savior and had followed the Assembly of God faith throughout her life.
In her spare time, Daisy enjoyed gardening and canning her home grown produce. She was a good cook and was known as “mom” to all of the children in her life.
Daisy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her many accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy Prewitt will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour. Burial will follow in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Visitaion will be from 7-8:00 p.m. Monday evening in the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.
