Dan Beam's Obituary
Daniel Dale Beam, son of Daniel and Julia Yvonne Sloan Beam, was born August 24, 1932 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He departed this life, Saturday, August 12, 2006 in Lake Regional Health Systems, Osage Beach, Missouri, at the age of seventy-three years, eleven months and nineteen days. On February 20, 1959 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Frances Margaret Bittle and together they shared the last forty seven years. To this union, four children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Yvonne May, and Virginia Morgal; and a brother, Richard Beam. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Frances, of the home; four children, Darla Scheuring, and her husband, Charles, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dan Beam, and his wife, Jolene, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Donna Poor, and her husband, Scott, of Camdenton, Missouri, and Dennis Beam, and his wife, Jenny, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; twenty-one grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Beam, and his wife, Elvera, of Malvern, Iowa; a sister; Joyce Miller, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa and went to school there. After school, he worked for the Oran Seed Company. He then faithfully served his country in the United States Army. After his tour of active duty, he and Fran were married and they made their home in Council Bluffs, where they lovingly raised their children. He worked for the Iowa Power and Light Company and retired after thirty-five years of service to the company which is now known as Mid-America Energy. He and Fran retired to the lake area in 1994. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an excellent woodcarver and had mastered the art of relief carving as well as whittling. He had made many wood items for his family to enjoy. He was a big NASCAR fan and had raced on the dirt track himself earlier in his life. He was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Osage Beach. He had also been a member of the Eagles Lodge Aerie 104 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Dan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother and was a caring neighbor and friend. We will cherish his memory in our hearts and will miss him greatly. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2006, in Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Eugene Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri. Memorial donations to the American Lung Association may be made through the funeral home.
