Pastor Dan Talbott (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Danny (Dan) Lynn Talbott of Lebanon, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 in his home. At the time of his passing he was seventy-nine years, eight months and four days old.
Dan was born to Clarence Talbott and Sylvia January Talbott on May 20, 1943 in Guymon, Oklahoma. He spent the early years of his life in Oklahoma and Kansas before moving to Missouri when he was sixteen years old. His family lived in the Cedar Ridge community near Long Lane, Missouri. He graduated from Buffalo High School and married Sharon Mathews on August 12, 1962.
He and Sharon moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Dan worked at General Motors and later for Firestone. They then returned to Long Lane and later moved to Oklahoma, followed by Phillipsburg and Conway, Missouri area. Dan then opened a country store on the Dallas County line and opened Talbott’s Grocery in Conway and Tightwad, Missouri. He also worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for more than twenty years. Dan and Sharon eventually moved to Lebanon, Missouri.
First and foremost, Dan was a servant to the Lord. He was saved when he was twenty-four years old and six months later accepted the call to preach. He pastored churches in Missouri and Oklahoma including Dove Bible Church, New Home Church in Wright County, Lynn Street Free Will Baptist Church, Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, Kingsway Church in Springfield, Missouri, Marshfield Free Will Baptist Church, Calvary Free Will Baptist Church and Unity Free Will Baptist Church.
Since 2007, Dan had been the pastor at Parkway Free Will Baptist Church in Sedalia, Missouri. Dan loved the Lord deeply and was passionate about sharing the gospel and God’s unfailing love with all those he met. He was a friend you could count on, pray with, talk to and know that Dan would truly pray for you, and your situation, and help out any way he could. He was very respected in the Free Will Baptist Church Association, and served on various boards and committees over the years.
Dan also demonstrated his strong belief in God and it was his dream to baptize his children and his grandchildren, which he was honored to do. He was strong in his faith and honored the Sabbath Day.
He is survived by his loving and wonderful wife of 60 years, Sharon; their children, which he was very proud of, Renee Inman and her husband, David of Springfield, Missouri, Kurt Talbott and his wife, Kim of Edmond, Oklahoma and Kris Talbott and his wife, Morgan of Conway, Missouri; his nine grandchildren that he loved so much, Brett, Nicole, Kelsey, Kole, Kylie, Koty, Ellie, Desiree and Natalie; four precious great-grandchildren, Abigail, Amelia, Keaton and Cade; his sisters, Betty Wright of Keller, Texas, Myrna Burtin of Long Lane, Missouri, Pat Siedel of Buffalo, Missouri and Pam Haworth of Rockaway Beach, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Anita.
Dan had always enjoyed sports and played baseball while attending Buffalo High School. He enjoyed playing on softball teams in the Conway Community. As his children and grandchildren came along, he played ball with them and coached many of their teams. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s games as they played sports.
Dan loved to fish and his goal was to catch a fish in all fifty states. Family fishing trips were also a special time for the Talbott family. He and Sharon continued these fishing trips with the children and grandchildren and invited friends to go along. So many wonderful memories were made over the years and family and friends will certainly miss the stories that Dan enjoyed telling.
Dan has left a legacy to his family that will be valued and treasured for many years to come. His sound advice and love to everyone lives inside us and will be with us to help guide us.
