Dana Carol Schafer (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Dana Carol Schafer, daughter of Clarence P. and Esther Mae Freye Day, was born June 2, 1942, in San Francisco, California.  She departed this life Sunday, January 24, 2016, in her home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-three years, seven months, and twenty-two days.
On January 6, 1962, she was united in marriage to Larry D. “Lew” Schafer, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Phyllis Bishop, Sharon James, and Kay Casterline.
Dana is survived by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Lew, of the home; a daughter, Amy Schafer, of Santos, Texas; a son, Patrick Schafer, and his wife, Toni, of Lebanon, Missouri; four grandchildren, Sharon and her husband, John David, Jessica, Charlie, and Sam; a great-grandchild, Rylee; a brother, Robert Hansen, of Sun City, Arizona; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in San Bruno, California, and graduated from Capachino High School.  She then attended college for a couple of years.  She met Lew while he was serving in the United States Navy and was stationed in California, and they were soon married.  They made their home in Norman, Oklahoma for one year, and then lived in California for seven years.  They moved to Kansas City, Missouri for seven years, and then came to Lebanon in 1978.  Throughout the years, Dana was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, and then worked as a receptionist and secretary for Gary Smith, Attorney at Law.  Later, she worked as a Merle Norman Cosmetics sales consultant for a few years.
Dana had professed her faith in Christ and was a member of First Baptist Church.  She had served as a church hostess and was active in various phases of church work as long as her health allowed.
She was an excellent cook and enjoyed trying new recipes.  She liked entertaining and was a wonderful hostess.  She enjoyed doing things well, and liked to present things in their proper form.  Her family was very important to her and she always made them the center of her life.  She had a fondness for San Francisco and her favorite movie was The Sound of Music.
Dana was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend.  We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her seventy-three years.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, and left at the funeral home.
