Daphne Wallen (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Daphne Jenkins Wallen died on February 14, 2017 at Parkview Healthcare Facility in Bolivar, Missouri at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 24 days. Daphne was welcomed as an only child of Edna Human Jenkins and Orby Edgar Jenkins on August 21, 1927 in Polk County Missouri. Daphne met her future husband Franklin Lee Wallen when she was 13 years old and was attending school with his younger sisters. They became more acquainted while attending the same church. They started dating in June of 1946 and were married April 4, 1947. To this union two daughters were born, Velma Louise and Wilma Dean.
Daphne enjoyed a long career working in banking for more than 30 years. She finished her career as an assistant Vice president at Commerce bank in Bolivar. Daphne and Frank were always willing to host the many Wallen family reunions and holiday gatherings at their home on the farm in Cedar County, Missouri. For many years Daphne made the pies for Bingo night at the DAV in Bolivar and she and Frank worked the concession stand. When her eyesight was still where she could she enjoyed sewing, reading and cooking for family.
Daphne was saved as a young girl and was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar County, Missouri. Daphne taught Sunday School there for many years and her desire was always that everyone she knew would know the Lord as she did.
Daphne was preceded in death by her parents Orby and Edna Jenkins and her husband Frank Wallen. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Velma and George Ashley of Springfield and Wilma and Charlie Branstetter of Fair Play. Also her sisters-in-law Loris Allred of Greenfield, Doris Swabby of Neosho and Barbara Spitz of Bolivar. She is also survived by several beloved cousins whom she thought of as her siblings being an only child herself and many nieces-in-law and nephews-in-law.
