She was born and raised in the Burt, Iowa community and then moved to Algona, Iowa, when she was eighteen years old. After she and Leo were married, they made their home in Algona and lovingly raised their children. In 1968, Darleen and Leo moved to Lebanon, Missouri and made their home. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her family, Darleen also worked as a bookkeeper in Algona, Iowa and at Empire Gas Company in Lebanon for several years.
